Day 74 From Kattegattleden to Cykelleden Skåne

Today we switched from one bike path to another.

We both concur that the part of the Kattegattleden that we biked had its moments but was never totally convincing, for instance, when we had to bike close to the big roads.

We left our place at quarter to ten after a healthy breakfast. Being a bit of a sport buff recently, we need to take care of our bodies and give them sufficient proteins and fibers.

There is one thing I must get off my chest: what do the Swedes have with minigolf? Along our route in Sweden, we passed by more mini golf courses than, for example, bakeries or coffee houses, to name a few things that make us enthusiastic when we find one.

The Kattegattleden had its ups and downs in the part we biked today. Not literally then, as this part of the route was fairly flat.

Downs: it runs partially alongside the highway, almost through a highway parking lot with a tank station and alongside busy roads.

Ups: the sea and a lot of lovely paths near the coast.

Halfway, Båstad seems a charming place, but it’s coastal parts have  strong Knokke-Zoute vibes (in case you don’t know this, it is the Chichi Seaside resort in Belgium) (chichi = where mainly the rich reside).

But we found an ICA in the town center, we have bought lunch and soup for dinner, and found a lovely bench to eat our lunch. Coolbox tourists still seem to be welcome here.

After Båstad we switched from the Kattegattleden to the Cykelleden Skåne. Also a switch from a rather flat track to a hilly route.

But although challenging, this part of the route was a lot more charming. Part of it went (again) via a dismissed railroad track that was turned into a nice bike path.

We did a lot of climbing, and we even passed by a complete open-air fitness area where we took some time to train our other muscle groups.

The wind was getting a bit crazy with 32 km/h and gusts of 60 km/h. One good thing: it was tailwind! So no complaints from us this time. We made good progress and after a last protein boost, we raced to the house where we’d stay for the night.

More pictures from the road to the house.

We arrived at the house at half past four, which was quite an accomplishment given the climbs and our unhurried pace throughout the day, though the favorable tailwind certainly aided our progress.

Tomorrow, we will do the final part of our race to Tyringe, covering a distance of 63 kilometers with an estimated 300 meters of ascent, according to Komoot. We shall see how accurate that proves to be. In Tyringe we planned two resting days.

Regarding the weather, today was pleasantly dry, with showers that occurred elsewhere and fortunately not in our vicinity, for which we are very grateful to Thor, the God of thunder. The forecast for tomorrow also suggests dry conditions, although evenings and nights often bring rain. An ideal combination for cyclists, by the way. It is a pity, though, that we are unable to share some of this rain with the warmer and drier regions of Europe, though we certainly would if it were within our power.
