Day 26
To ensure we maximized our time with Margot, we decided to commence our day at half past seven. Following breakfast, Margot, Leen, and I proceeded to Give for a small shopping excursion.
Give is also a city that claims to be a “Middelheim in the city” and even though it was charming and had a lot of different artworks, it kind of misses that extra vibe Varde had. (see also Day 22 and 23 Art, planning and a bit of both, Middelheim is an open air museum near Antwerp)

Somehow the art in Varde seemed more integrated in the fabric of the town and that gave it a more natural vibe, but then again, it’s just a feeling I got.
But we were also there to do some shopping: bread and pie, sunglasses, and lunch for today.

Cottage life is the best life! Jan and Els enjoyed a lovely walk around the house and ejoyed sitting next to the small lake of Allan’s garden.
For lunch we’re whipping up biksemad, a traditional leftover dish that’s an all-time favourite for us. It’s a delicious mix of potatoes cut in small cubes, onion, and usually leftover meat (when bought ready-made in a shop it’s mostly ham or bacon), all topped with a sunny-side-up egg and beetroot on the side. So good!

Our Airbnb hosts are seriously amazing. We mentioned an umbrella would be nice additionto the house, and a few hours later, Alan and Hanne showed up with a brand new one!

Jan, Els, and I took a walk around Langelund in the afternoon, while Margot and Leen enjoyed some quality time together.

Luckily, there are a lot of trees in the area, as temperatures are rising to 29 degrees Celsius here.
Later, sandwiches, and then some quiet time by the fireplace. Not much singing and dancing yet, but hey, it’s still one day till midsummer.

We even played a game of Stigegolf, where you have to throw balls that are connected with a small rope (bolas) to a construction with three horizontal wooden bars. Not clear? See the pictures and video below.

After the stigegolf there was still some time for a short walk over Allan’s domain. One small deer was spotted but it was too quick to be caught on camera.

And yours truly? He stayed behind to keep the fire burning.
Day 27
After our breakfast it was time to say goodbye to Margot, Els and Jan, as they would already return to Belgium.
It’s safe to say that this was a really emotional moment for all of us since it’ll be a while before we see Margot in person again.

Anyway, we wish her the best of luck with her life in New Zealand. For her, the holiday in Europe isn’t over yet, as she still has a lot of meet and greets with family and friends on her agenda.
The rest of the day was pretty chill for us. We took a short bike ride to Filskov to grab some missing ingredients. And for lunch, we came up with a new kind of sandwich. It’s like a hotdog on bread with a warm spinach and tomato spread. It’s surprisingly good.

In the afternoon, we just chilled. And we also had to do a few loads of laundry for the upcoming week.

Just a light evening meal to use up leftovers, and then it’s time to start thinking about packing and our journey tomorrow. We’ve got about 70+ kilometers to cover to a spot below Nymindegap, where we’ll set up our tent for the first time in Denmark!
