Breakfast at Sandra’s VOF was tailored to our needs.
Maybe I said it before but the lovely people that run Vrienden Op de Fiets (VOF) put all their heart, soul and their personality in it. Sandra actually wants to start a B&B, but to do this step by step, she starts it as a VOF residence.
She offers the breakfast in a discreet manner, a basket with all we need is put on the terrace table.

We took our time to enjoy breakfast, loaded our bags to our bikes, said our goodbyes to Sandra and started biking towards Bakkeveen, a normally 57 km ride to the east.
But our GPS had other plans for us. 👹
As we went along, it was weird that we saw some familiar places, a piece of art and a tower we’d seen a few years ago when we visited Oudega, which is in the complete opposite direction of where we needed to go.
I was already a bit suspicious because Garmin said we had 99 remaining kilometers! But yeah, sometimes it takes a while for this little computer to get it right. Anyway, we checked and sure enough, for some strange reason, Garmin was taking us west instead of east. We still don’t know why, since the loaded track seemed correct. There were probably strange forces at work.
So a replan is in order. Instead of the anticipated 57 km we now need to do 63 km 🤨.
No worries. We’re not losing our good mood since our legs feel way better than yesterday. Though I gotta say, my body’s been silently protesting sometimes, gently asking for more rest than the past few days. And that’s exactly what we’re gonna do in Bakkeveen.
For lunch, we stopped at Saint Nyk at a lovely second-hand store with the mysterious title: “Fokking,” which probably has a different meaning in the Frys language than what we would expect.

To the west!
Or as Van Der Graaf Generator once sung:
West is where all days will someday end,
where the colours turn from grey to gold,
and you can be with the friends.
Going through Herenveen, a nice village, not a city. We were corrected by somebody who wanted to show us some lovely views.

In Gorredijk Leen dove into the latest Albert Heijn before our destination (still 17 km to go) to grab some food for the next few days.

Good time to test out the backpacks we brought for that!

A lovely winding road through the forest helped us to bring us in an optimal mood again.
After the forest, it was just a few kilometers to our B&B, where we’ll rest for the next 2 days. It’s a so-called artistic apartment, run by an artistic painter. So we’re curious to meet her, as she was not there and it was a bit of a hassle to gain access to the place.

After unpacking all the bags for the first time, and cooking a fine dinner, it’s time for some rest and sleep sleep sleep 😴.
