Day -18 Warming up those muscles

We need to get our muscles ready, so we should do some bike trips before the big one. I even heard it’s good to do two 42 km rides a week to prepare. But then again, you read soo much on the internet.

Two times 42 km is not easy to achieve in our current schedule (yes, we have a life besides the preparation of this trip). So, Leen proposed to visit a friend in Landen, some 35 km from where we live.

I quickly planned a route in Komoot: 35 km (one way trip) and 220 m total ascent: pretty intense for a warm up. In Landen we were welcomed very warmly and we got coffee and cake as a treat.

Returning to Leuven, first indications of saddle pain, at least on my side, and I reached the limits of my right knee (a weak point in my anatomy). But with an average moving speed of 15,9 km/h, a job well done for one of our first bigger bike trips of the year.

Luckily, Leen had some magical medicine up her sleeve: two types of power bars to boost our energy:

Both products originate from Innerme. The two items on the left are gel-based, formulated with heavy syrups, which I found to be excessively sweet and viscous; however, I did perceive a noticeable effect.

The energy bar is fruit-based and tastes better to me.

Basically, they both do their job and give you a quick energy boost when you need it.
