Today, we covered a distance of 62 kilometers and ascended 410 meters. This could be considered a notable achievement for a bicycle journey along the beach.
The first part was really lovely and enjoyable. We first went back to Åhus to buy eclipse glasses. No luck there but it led us through a beautiful part of town that we hadn’t seen yet.

We also had the opportunity to visit the grand church, and its interior proved to be equally captivating. They have meticulously restored some of the original wall paintings, which are often painted over in white in many churches. To our delightful surprise, there was even a boat suspended from the ceiling, a feature more commonly associated with Danish tradition.

We biked further to look at the ruin of a fortress we saw yesterday from a distance.

These remains belong to a 12th-century castle that was originally built by the archbishops of Lund as a defensive work. It served for a long time as an important administrative and military stronghold until it was largely destroyed in the 17th century.
We continued our bicycle journey along the Helge Å and then proceeded southward along Sweden’s east coast. The coastal scenery is truly picturesque. Around lunchtime, we cycled across a wooden pathway, which also guided us to our dining location.

Following our lunch, we resumed our journey and paused briefly at the seashore. You will notice the remarkable tranquility of the Baltic Sea today, a distinct contrast to our Belgian coastline.

The forest ends right before the sandy beach. And in that lovely forest we continued our journey.
Right before we entered Kivik, we stopped at a gas station to get some energy from our favorite vacation coffee boost.

Kivik is recognized as a significant region in Sweden for the production of apple juice and apple cider. I am curious to know if they offer blossom tours during the spring season.
We did some shopping for the coming days, and then the climbs started.

We were very tired when we arrived at the Airbnb we rented for the coming days, but at half past five we got there, a bit out of breath to be honest after a day with 410 climbing meters, but that was also what we could expect in the neighborhood of Stenshuved National Park.

We will stay here the coming two days, a bit of resting, a bit of exploring, who knows what the day will bring.
Extra!
Today we crossed our 3000 kilometers milestone. 🪨
