Day 70 All things must come to an end

Don’t jump to conclusions yet. It’s about our favorite biking path from the past two biking days.

First, we gotta eat breakfast, pack our stuff, and say bye to Claes and Åsa, the warm and welcoming hosts of the cozy, tiny house where we have spent the night.

The weather forecast indicates that today will feature a variety of weather conditions, including sunshine, rain, wind and clouds, with rapid transitions between them.

And the day started with… rain. So we waited a while till it was over. When we were saying our goodbyes the sky was blue again and the sun was shining in its full glory. (This will be a bit of a recurring theme in today’s report). So we started biking at almost 10:30, and we still had 60 kilometers to do today. But first, as an attentive and loyal reader, you guessed it right: we had to do some shopping. So after 6 kilometers, we stopped at Willy:s and did a quick in and out before we could start the real work.

Opening hours

But then Tina, a sweet lady who also loves biking, interrupted us. She wanted to know all about our trip and our gear and told us in detail about her upcoming biking plans. She offered us coffee at her place; however, our schedule was becoming increasingly tight. It was already 11:30, and we really needed to make some progress.

So, with heavy hearts, we said no and headed off.

What a surprise! The lovely bike path we’ve been on for two days suddenly turned into an real old railroad track, thar was not yet transformed into a bike trail.

After lunch, it started raining again. And when it finally, we were on our way again.

Ha ha ha ha, staying alive, staying alive

Since it was a Sunday, we were continuously looking for a Fika or Våfflor (waffles) place and suddenly we got lucky!

There was coffee and Swedish cookies, but unfortunately we had to pay cash, and that was one thing we did not need in Sweden yet: cash money. But the responsible lady was very  hands down commercial: “We also accept euros!” Luckily, we still had 10 euros put away somewhere. When we entered the room with our coffee and cookies, we were welcomed by live music. A local band was playing a mix of classical pop songs, and one was certainly applicable for today’s weather.

Here comes the sun! I did already mention it would be a recurring theme

After our fika, we had to keep going. The weather went up and down, and so did the road. Lots of climbing, the kind we were trying to avoid by going South.

Our route at the end was a real challenge! 🥵

But we kept going and at a quarter past five we arrived at the Fegen hostel, where we’ll spend the night.

The rest of the day is pretty routine: unpacking, making our evening meal, showering, and chilling out.

Tomorrow, we’re heading to the sea, the Kattegat to be precise. We will stay in a town called Falkenberg, 64 kilometers and 280 climbing meters along the Ätradals-leden, so we will need to oil our legs again 🤪. We will be rewarded with a resting day. Hopefully the weather will be fine then. I am already looking forward at a day at the beach,
