Welcome to the story of our Big Bike Tour.

We are two 60 plussers: Jan (65) and Leen (64) with a dream to go from Leuven, Belgium to Mid Sweden by bike. We aim for Umeå using travel bikes and no electricity. Keep it simple, take our time and enjoy the world.

The journey starting in the last week of May will last around 120 days: 80 days of biking and 40 days of rest, during which we usually use the bike for some sightseeing.

The dream began in 2025 with a wild idea to revisit all the wonderful places and friends we’d spent vacations with, both with and without our kids, over the years. We want to take a grand tour of these cherished spots and use the trip as a milestone between our working lives and our retirement.

We already have some bikepacking experience from smaller tours in the Netherlands (21 days) and Denmark (also 21 days), so stepping up to the next level with a 120-day trip might be a big leap, but we believe it’s achievable.

This blog describes our preparation (bike, tent, clothing, sleeping and cooking gear) and ultimately our experiences on the trip itself.

Feel free to comment , react, cheer and support.
